Exploring the Deep Sea
The deep oceans account for some of the largest, yet poorly known ecosystems on the planet. My research has focused on exploring un-sampled areas of the deep oceans using ROVs, museum specimen data and collaborations with federal and private agencies in order to increase our knowledge of this extreme and complex environment.
Empowering and Using Natural History Collections
Natural history collections are the closest thing humanity has to a time machine. Through the specimens we have collected and the data they have we are able to not only learn about how plants and animals at a place in time, but we can go as far as to virtually recreate an entire ecosystem. My work focuses on unlocking novel uses for museum specimens and helping to develop the best practices that allow them to be around for centuries to come.
